Topo Chico fans are pretty devoted people. And I should know, because I am one. And I’m devoted enough to have a Topo tattoo. It was that tattoo, and this idea, that helped us win the pitch to become Topo’s first Earned Media AOR.
Topo Chico is a brand beloved by artists, musicians, chefs, makers, writers, and more. And the brand itself is very protective of the creative class and their connection to it. That’s why this campaign, which gave five up-and-coming Seattle independent musicians free studio time at legendary London Bridge Studios, free copies of the finished album, and all proceeds from each sale with our partner Vinyl Me Please, was so special. The artists got a big platform and all the proceeds and all the brand asked for in return was good will and good press. They got both.
The Yellow Album was a collaboration between the brand’s local Seattle marketing manager (who knew all the bands personally), Vinyl Me Please (who jumped at the chance to produce this special record), and a talented team of motivated account people at Zeno who helped us bring this to life.
Copies were sent to each participating band for them to sell personally and each band received proceeds from every sale on VMP. We also shared copies to various media and Topo-friendly influencers to help get the word out to the right communities.
The album itself was printed on iconic Topo Chico yellow vinyl and featured a striking slipcover design by local Seatlle artist Liz Tran.
